Biography
In 2020 I started posting pen and ink drawings from my sketchbook featuring rural landscapes and family life on Instagram. All my work is hand-drawn directly in ink, capturing spontaneous moments from my life in as much detail as I can recreate.
Inspiration
I have been inspired by many artists, and my visual palette has matured parallel to my life experiences. My core influences are Katsushika Hokusai, Hasui Kawase, Gustave Doré, Vincent van Gogh (Reed and quill pen drawings), and David Hockney.
Style
You will discover all of my art influences weaved into my work quoted above, and my style is still evolving, but I am fascinated with capturing time in high definition. My work is very detailed, and each composition is designed to invite you into the picture to discover all the different marks on the display.
Technique
My technique pulls on the traditional pen and ink stippling and line spacing, but I have also evolved my knowledge to follow the contours of the objects I'm observing. This creates unusual shading and line direction/spacing and has a looser execution, establishing energy or movement in the artwork.
I trained as an illustrator at Leeds College of Art & Design, achieving a distinction. I completed my higher education in Visual Communication at Sheffield Norton College, where I won several awards and was highly commended by the Design & Art Direction Association (D&AD).
