Pen and Ink Drawing of Historic Dockyard (Slip 3)
Sketch #46 / Book #2 (2022)
This pen and ink drawing captures the beauty and history of Historic Dockyard Slip 3, based in Chatham, Kent. The intricate architecture with intercepting structural components and angles combined with the incredible lighting makes this one of the most complex drawings I have ever undertaken. If you are new to my work, I seek complexity and go all in with the ink first (i.e., I do not draft in pencil).
The best way I can describe this place is as a cathedral for ships; built in the early 1800's it was the largest wide-span timber structure in Europe. My drawing aims to capture the scale and almost spiritual-like quality when experiencing the architecture in person. The naked engineering featuring the ribs of the building adds beauty and honesty to the structure.
The colour edition features cold and warm hues to immerse the viewer's senses in the drawing. The environment's temperature has been enhanced to show the building in a different light and amplify the sense of space.
The drawing is a must-have for maritime history fans or those who appreciate pen and ink art. It is also a perfect gift for anyone who has ever visited the Historic Dockyard or who has a special connection to the area.

Each giclee art print features the original drawing, which has undergone a meticulous process to capture the detail with the utmost accuracy paying close attention to the texture, details and ink work.
